This small, land locked country bordered by Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rwanda is referred to as the “land of a thousand hills” comprised of fertile and hilly terrain. They depend on subsistence agriculture with dense and increasing population.
Rwanda’s climate is tropical and the high elevation with two rainy seasons from February- May and September – December.

Transport is primarily by road, the government has invested in the improvement of transport infrastructure with paved roads in the capital city Kigali and most of the major towns and cities in the country. It has an international airport at Kigali serving both domestic and international flights.
The outstanding mountain features offer a unique scenic beauty; mountain gorillas and primates make it a special destination.

Passport and Visa

Tourists must to have a valid passport and the visa is obtained on arrival at the airport cost of US dollar 60.

Language

French and English are the official languages spoken; Kiswahili is used in commercial centers while Kinyarwanda is the local language.

The Rwandan Franc is the legal tender and the US dollar is another hard currency where by 1 dollar is exchanged at a rate of about 500 RFR.Visa and credit cards are majorly used in major hotels in Kigali.

Volcanoes National Park / Parc National Des Volcans (PNV)

This park is situated in northwestern part of Rwanda almost 5000 feet with magnificent mountain ranges, steep slopes, and swamp heath, rich mosaic montane ecosystems with evergreen and bamboo forest. The evergreen rain forest is famous for the rare mountain gorillas.

Apart from the mountain gorillas, the foothills of the Virungas offer wonderful exhilarating gorilla trekking and scenic views in all directions. As you enter the rain forest their various calls of colorful bird’s species in the park, the rare golden monkeys, some populations of buffaloes and elephant.

The activity of gorilla trekking begins at 7:00am with a meeting at Kinigi offices. Hiking Mt. Bisoke and Mt. Karisimbi is accessible through the cultivated foothills. You need to be physically fit and healthy because the walk is quite long.

Trekking the habituated rare golden monkey, nature walk to enjoy the warm climate of the high altitude and visiting the Dian Fossey Tomb at the old Karisoke who spent a lot of her time studying and researching about gorillas.

Akagera National Park

Akagera national park covers an area of 2,500 km on a relatively low altitude bordering Tanzania and scarcely more different than the cultivated hills characteristic of Rwanda. Akagera is 0ne of the Rwanda tour attractions.
It is a place to be for safaris with its complex mix of terrains, marshland, lakes, vegetation and animal life plus conducive climate that offers an enchanting and adventurous environment.

It offers various activities such as game viewing to see big mammals like buffaloes, elephants, zebras, giraffes and antelopes that emerge from the woodland to drink water at the lakes. on a good day you might come across the leopard, spotted hyena or lion. There is also the chestnut-coaled Impala, oribi, bushbuck, ungainly tsessebe and cape eland.

Take a boat ride on the calm Lake Ihema to see hippos and crocodiles. This park inhabits more than 525 species of birds such as shoebill stork and papyrus gonolek.The Jacanas, herons, sandpipers, plovers and ibis are among the endemic species.
The park offers various water activities and sports, game drives, bird watching and a wide range of recreational activities.

Nyungwe Forest National Park

This is the largest afro-montane forest declared a national park across the majestic hills south east of Rwanda bordering Burundi. It is four hours drive from Kigali town to the park.

The forest is well endowed with a variety of tree species, flowering plants, orchids and giant lobelia.
Nyungwe is famous for up to 13 species of primates among which includes the chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and L’hoest’s monkey. For the bird lovers there are different species of birds such as the blue turaco, green and red birds that keep moving around and Nyungwe water falls which gives a splendid scenic view.

The various well maintained walking trails offer opportunities for trekking chimpanzees and varieties of primates, guided nature walks and bird watching.
